Hi Dave, and welcome. Which engines are you working on? I recently finished a Stuart Major beam, the build thread is lurking on here somewhere along with quite a few my earlier (smaller) efforts! John

Hi John
Currently, when time permits between regular hospital treatments, I'm working on the Real Vertical Steam Engine, as described by Andrew Smith in his 1982 book. I want to utilise a flywheel and cylinder castings which I have lying around, plus possibly bearing blocks and eccentric castings. The rest will be fabricated. At the moment, I'm preparing the CAD drawings.
Unfortunately, very few of the drawings in the book are dimensioned, but there is an excellent GA front and side view, which I can scale up in order to use my 12in. flywheel. The scaling factor comes out vat 4.3636, but I have compromised at 4.5 which should make life easier. It will be quite an impressive beast, standing at just over 24in. tall. Actually, my pal and I are building one each, as the castings I have are duplicated. He has a prodigious output from his workshop, so I'm guessing that his model will be finished way before mine!
Dave
