With the demise of the firm, it seems that the ability to buy one or two inserts is over. Everywhere i look they are only in 10s
which brings me to a possible solution
Last night my parting tool 'hung up' and broke the insert It is a QD-NF-0250-0002-CM 1125. the cheapest is 120 for 10.
Is there anyone else using these and would like to buy a couple of intserts at cost. Even the postage will be free!!
I will take three, so if anybody wants to make up the other seven in any amount, just let me know

Hi Ron
Question has been discussed before but shop-atp.co.uk will sell hobby numbers (might be two, you need to look). In my view they are a good dealer and I go there for all similar tooling.

Ron,
I'm probably wrong but these look suspiciously like the GTN-3 series of single-eneded parting tips. If that is the case, then they are more like £25 for ten. Maybe time for a new holder?

Yes, I have now looked at that part number. As Steve says the Sandvick original is pricy, I am seeing £125 - £250 for ten. Forget about them.
Personally, I much prefer to use old fashioned HSS parting cutters. Hone them each time on a diamond grit plate, add lubricant, and they cut metal as if it were butter. Yes I have lots of carbide insert parting tools which I bought because we were all encouraged to (fooled into), and they were the current fashion. But they are meant for CNC machinery and industry. My biggest lock-ups have come from using carbide parting inserts. The tips are not sharp, they are rounded and designed to plough into metal at very high speeds.

New name same old grumpy!! For some reason the system would not let me log on under silverfox, so a new alter ego
Steve/Norm will have a look around at your suggestions. As regards the thin parting of blades. I changed to inserts mainly because i am not the worlds best on grinding tools! But may well give the HSS parting cvutters a go. Are there any tips as to angles etc? Ron

A point above about HSS parting tools. Yes hone them but try grinding a hollow/concave bowl shape that just intersects into the front edge in the top edge with a dremel or similar tool. The concave bowl shape, like the Greenwood parting tip, rolls the swarf in on itself and then easily clears the slot getting cut.
Certainly don't allow the cutting edge to get below the top edge. Given the deep "V" cross section the higher shoulders will jam as the depth increases.
The only problem I've had with these parting inserts is the width of cut so use the thinner HSS blade type sharpened as above. See cost of materials here earlier.

APT only do a limited amount of their range in TWOs so and won't have these but good for other popular hobby shapes The Sandvik inserts are 0.100" wide (2.6mm) which was handy for the imperial based model maker but that falls between GTN-2 and GTN-3 as well as having a slightly different profile that fits the specific holder so you can't use that type. He does sell some stuff on e-bay www.ebay.co.uk/usr/green-483?_trksid=p2047675.m3561.l2559
