The Isle of Wight Model Engineers Society is holding an open weekend on Saturday 3rd September and Sunday 4th. The club will be open to members of the public from 1pm to 4pm on both days and will include an exhibition of members' locomotives, traction engines, boats, the garden railway and other paraphernalia as well as the running of locos, although it appears that the raised level track, because of it's close proximity to the boundary hedge, will not be in use for steam engines due to an enhanced fire risk.
Entry is free but donations are always welcome. Refreshments will be available and free rides will be on offer depending on availability of locos.
Further details can be found HERE
Regards, Steve

Hi Steve, The wording confused me as well as our club chairman, who also thought that the main raised track was the one that you wouldn't be steaming on. You might find people with Steam Locomotives think they can't steam them and not come.

Well. the event went ahead and was a success. It was a pity about the closure of one of the tracks (yes, the 5"/3.5" one) - we'd had a couple of fires set off by cinders dropping from running locos. They were quite difficult to put out, in spite of having a ready supply of water - the fire seemed to track under the surface and pop up elsewhere - so it would have been easy to assume we'd put it out, only for it to flare up later. The ground level track is more in the open and has less combustible debris underneath. And we're back to normal now.

This was last year!
There'll be another event, but I don't know when. And of course, you'd be welcome.
