I found a little 1/4 inch chuck in my box under the bench, and some time ago I bough a very cheap 9 euros electric screwdriver for hex screwdriver bits. this has been very useful, but sometimes I wanted to drill a hole for the screw, so the chuck was necessary. In these cheap bits sets, there is often a little extension bar, which is 3/8" dia, so I cut a 3/8 unf thread on the end of it, and Loctited the chuck onto it, a simple job, and a very useful tool. First time I have ever seen a painted Jacobs type chuck. Any particular reason?

Well guessed Steve. I have most of my tools painted so I know what is what, ie, spanners, metric are blue, Whitworth Red and Af green. even my lathe chucks are painted, jaws 1,2, and 3 have a different colour, so when I change the jaws in the 3 jaw chuck, it is easy to see which goes where. and so on. It is much easier to see colours, than numbers on tools.
best wishes
