I’m still progressing towards my potential purchase of a Winson 9f. I think I appreciate the potential pitfalls and re-work that may be required. I would like guidance on what is available for drawings and listings of repairs / modifications that could or should be made ?

Hi Cars2, I have in the last few weeks bought a Winson 9f Black Prince which has not been started yet. Boiler No 71 year 2002. Like you I also would like some guidance from experienced 9f model builders. From initial inspection the cylinders need to be modified but every thing else that is wrong will come to light as I progress. Good luck with your purchase . Graham

Well done both of you for having a go at something. Yes, the combined knowledge of a few current, and past, members on this forum would give you a good 'how to' list. The problem is that if one person did it, they would have to write an entire article, and it would inevitably be subjective.
There have been several answers to your questions given on this forum in the past. I would suggest that you google from outside and spend time finding the right keywords to search. I have published a series in ME that describes the work to improve a Modelworks Britannia, and much of that (springs, valves, regulator, draughting) equally applies to the Modelworks 9F.
There is one Modelworks 9F being updated on this forum now, so there are enough of you to ask the questions and join forces to get some answers. There is also the subtle matter to face of what has to be fixed to make them run well, and what it would be nice to fix to make them look better.

Hi Norm, you are quite right in what you say. I am going to build my 9f and when I find something that is not right I will use what engineering skills I have to correct it and google for guidance. I have already replaced the horn cheek nuts and bolts on the tender with rivets and they look much better. Onwards and upwards! Graham
