Hi All After reading spring crocus boiler fix I feel a bit weak in posting this but I am not a boiler maker and not really a proper engineer, just love locos!!
My No 60 secret project requires a shell test on the 30 year old boiler so I have had to dismantle the whole thing down to each bit. I tested the the boiler today and found a pin hole leak in the super heater. So I had it out and much to my surprise it is a short one compared to what it should be. So a repair is not an option. It is the same superheater that is used in the Princess of Wales so I need to find a super heater maker to do this. I suppose any commercial boiler maker could do this but I cannot wait 2 years, need it now!! Does anyone have a suggestion please? Cheers David PS One day I will reveal the secret project side of the No 60!!!!!!

Have you a preference for material it is going to be made of David? Just wondering if you could make it up as a kit of parts and get a friendly engineer to silver solder it (copper) or TIG weld it (stainless steel). If you wanted a commercial provider these people do TIG welded stainless steel type to your specification: www.steamtechnology.co.uk/Regards, Dan

I used stainless steel darts available on ebay and silver soldered them into place as usual. My William has a pair which I fitted as radiant to replace the non-radiant copper ones, and my britannia has four smaller ones. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255131974328

Thanks chaps. I have also found out that I must check to see if I have cast iron or gunmetal cylinders. As this loco is 30+ years old I will need to progress carefully!! Cheers David

Good news, do not need a new one. Pin hole found and after cleaning up, little dollop of silver solder will fix it. Cheers David
