Could I have recommendations of lamps members are using for both lathe and milling machines please (I know what's out there but I would like to know exact models you are using and if you use more than one at the same time).
I have a low ceiling so fitting strip lights above isn't an option (tried LED T5 replacements and they hurt my eyes!)
Cheers,
Tom

Tom, have you considered low wattage LED security lights? Relatively cheap, low running costs and easily sourced from places like Screwfix or similar. Yes, they can be very bright so either position further away or paint your ceiling brilliant white and point the light either fully or partially at that. Maybe use two to minimise any shadows. Or perhaps a 600*600mm LED panel something like this ...Or Similar from Screwfix

I use Ikea made Anglepoise style lights. Dirt cheap but work very well. A single hole in the workbench makes for an easy install....

My Warco lathe came with a rather bulky lamp attached to the cross slide. I also mounted an angle pose lamp to the shelf above the lathe, this gives me plenty of light to work with.
best wishes

I have found a BC-to-GU10 converter allows an LED bulb to be fitted in an old anglepoise-style light. I know you can get BC fitting LED bulbs, but the GU10 ones give more of a beam.

Wilf I've done the same but as my anglepois lamp was a birthday present over fifty plus years ago the springs couldn't hold the extra weight. I needed to drill a cross hole and lower the cross pin that held the two side springs. I had already used up all the adjustment years ago.
