I was told by one of the older members of the club that in days gone by they used to use radweld or similar stuff to repair weeping boiler stays, is this true or are they pulling my leg?

True! I suppose you still could, how would anyone know?

I was told by an experienced loco builder that an egg placed in the boiler would seal up leaking stays, this was a long time ago when I first started out. But I've always wondered if my leg was being pulled too!
Gullible Dave?

The egg trick might be a bit too much for a model boiler, but its certainly been used in full size boilers. So, for that matter has oatmeal and cow dung----.

There is a post on here somewhere that discusses this. They also mentioned a few versions of loctite which can be used by pulling a slight vacuum on the boiler. I've been meaning to try it also on a springbok boiler. 🙂

I used Dyna Grip Seal Tite from SupaCheap Auto to seal a couple of pin prick leaks in a boiler. It consists of copper fine copper 'dust' in waterglass worked perfectly.
Cheers Jim

Ground white pepper works well too. Jim But ground ginger seals and smells so it is a giveaway that it has been used. Do white pepper cause sneezing to those nearby? Brian
