I have received advice from some of my local club members to build something a bit heavier than my current Rob Roy project. So I am considering Simplex. I have the book and I have noted various threads on Simplex vs Super Simplex and even extended versions with front pony wheels, bigger boilers and 0-6-2 versions but I think I want to keep this project as 'simple' as possible. I have also taken the time to read this Simplex thread from start to finish - so I am aware of a whole host of faults with the original design (feels like Rob Roy already).
My first request is a sort of scrounge but something that might help others on here? Does anybody have drawings, or spare Simplex parts that they no longer need? I would obviously pay real money for anything that might help get me started.

Thanks Ian. The chassis and boiler parts might well be a reasonable price but regarding the chassis, one would be more than enough. But thanks for the links. Perhaps have a good look at flee bay.

I concluded that if you wait long enough, a suitable Simplex starter will turn up on e-bay because old rusty part finished Simplex frames appear to be very popular. However, that is no fun is it?
I have the Simplex book bought by my late dad in about 1977 and two strips of 4" wide x 1/8" bright mild steel sheet - both at 29 3/8" long - original Simplex size. So I decided to start on 14th August 2023.
I removed the light rust from both sides of the plates using a flapper wheel in a hand drill followed by Halfords rust remover (the stuff that turns bright steel a sort of multi coloured blackish finish). I applied the flapper wheel again after the rust remover followed by a quick polish

Hello Phil (H),
To answer the question that you have posted in 'General Chat' under subject-heading 'Posting Photos' I recommend that you ask a moderator to shift this thread to the main 'General Chat' section of the board or alternatively start a new 'Simplex build' thread there as more will read it. The layout and visual presentation of the forum on-screen may mean that some (many?) do not come-down to this relative forum backwater so will miss postings under this heading.
Looking forward to your build description,
Phil (R)

Thanks Phil (R). I will make a new posting in the general section because I've milled the steel to the correct width and questions are starting. Thanks.
