Hi Guys My name is Drew Saunders and I'm a complete novice when it comes to model locomotive engineering, so I'm going to need all the help I can get from you all. I have acquired a 5" Bulldog project, it's very well made but needs a lot of love to get it working. By the way if anyone recognises it please let me know as I would love to know who the original model engineer was. Anyway here are some pictures of the Bulldog as I found it, poorly hand painted and covered in rust and swarf.
I will try and start a build thread so you can see all the up's and downs of bringing this amazing locomotive back to life. RegardsDrew

Do you have any drawings and any other parts for it, tender, boiler etc, it looks as though it is the Keith Wilson design, if it is it was written up in Model Engineer many years ago.

Hi Drew,
Welcome to the site first of all.
I am also building a Bulldog/Dukedog from the Keith Wilson stable. The construction details were published in the Model Engineer magazine from ME3571 February 1979 and concluded in June 1982. There are a few known errors, but, like you, I bought my frames at the completed stage. The main problem area seems to be with the valve gear, which requires a modification unless your builder knew this and has made the adjustment.
Hope you find the build interesting, and good luck.
Geoff

Thanks guys for the welcome.
Millman, Yes it's to the Keith Wilson design, I was lucky to get a full set of ME build articles with the loco I have also purchased a set of drawings. Unfortunately I don't have a tender or boiler, I am thinking of investing in a tender kit from Polly Engineering when they are fully back up to speed, I have booked a slot with Paul at Southern Boiler Works so hopefully will have saved enough cash to pay for it next year.
Hi Geoff I would love to see pictures of your Bulldog, is there an easy way to tell if the original builder has modified the valve gear?
I will start a separate build thread soon. Cheers Drew
