Need to make an in line lubricator to fit in a 5/32 steamline .
This is the sraight through type ie no valve.
Would like to know what size hole to drill in the steam pipe inside the lubricator please ?
Also orientation, ie is is it sideways ?
I ask, as unable to find a drawing on the internet.
Thanks

I've not found a dimensioned drawing of one with the steam pipe passing through. LBSC has one in "Shop, Shed and Road" where the oil tank is on a branch to the side - and the hole is marked "Drill No. 80".

There are various opinions on this, and on how these things actually work! I do not think that the orientation of the hole is critical - it may be horizontal or vertical as convenient - and only a very small hole is needed. The oil flow rate will depend both on the rate of steam condensation and the size of the hole, so it is sensible to start with the smallest diameter you can manage. A search for "simple displacement lubricator" should get some results.

If I remember correctly, Don Young specified a No.76 drill. I have made two such lubricators and they work well... and No.76 is the smallest drill I have ever bought, so I'm pretty sure that's the one!
