First please watch this video which shows my shed and the motorcycle turntable I built youtu.be/Q430PPWvvpc?si=AEXkRww5yzL8MPRcSo before I had any idea about 3 phase, geared motors or power supplies I decided to build my turntable to spin my motorcycle with the best engineering I could think of. Its just a 2 meter dia circle of 10mm black acrylic (to be upgraded to alloy tread plate) rolling on castor wheels being rotated by a 12v car winch that used a chain on a sprocket in the centre of the disk. Its been powered with a 12v deep cycle battery until now. Im wanting to upgrade it to a solution that can work off mains 240v UK power and it only needs to spin 180 degrees at a time, like in the vid. Previously I asked a engineering motor supplier who came up with a geared single phase motor and he priced £1600 but thats mad money when I can spin it by hand really easily. You guys have major knowledge of converters and stuff ive never heard off, So how and what gear would you use to upgrade my turnatable? Thanks in advance BTW - No taking the piss, I did this to honour my father for leaving me this property. He would of absolutely Loved it. So when at some stage I want to get it finished properly.

Ant1DP,
Don't under estimate the benefits of the "KISS" approach, consider a mandraulic drive. It's more often than not bullet proof as there is little to go wrong. Just watch your toes.
"KISS" = Keep It Simple Stupid (no offence intended).

Have a look on ebay/Alixpress for 230v low speed motor. What is the power of the 12v unit?

If it moves easily by hand, ditch the motor! The problem with a geared motor, you will need some means of disconnecting the drive from the turntable in the event of a power/motor/drive failure If huge locomotives (gets the thread on topic) can be moved on a manual turntable, a motorbike will be easy

Hi Ant1dp, Go with a lazy Susan type bearing…. Not sure how big you can get one, but it would keep everything low profile, plus do you need to have a full circular plate? If it was me I’d opt for a straight strip … take up less floor space & make it easier to store.
Cheers Kerrin

If what you have got works I would stick with it and buy the DC power supply.
