Whilst moving house, I moved a box from the shed containing a largish bottle of Rocol Layout blue. I didn't notice that it had leaked onto some old blankets I was using to protect the car floor. The next item up was a fridge freezer, slid on its side onto the blankets. On removal at the other end, theres was a large streak of blue up the side of the fridge, making me very unpopular. I've tried normal household cleaners and nothng touches it. Before I get more exotic (Meths, white spirit) does anyone know how to get the stuff off?

Meths or isopropyl alcohol should do the trick

Thanks gents. Meths I'm prepared to try in the kitchen, petrol not!

I think you will always have a shadow from the stain, you could get some white vinyl wrap and cover that side to hide it. Cheers Jason.

The streak is about 12" long, but fortunately most of it is below the level of the kitchen unit it stands next to!

You can pay a lot extra for an other than white fridge. If you can't get rid of that streak consider going for a blue one.
I used that blue stuff years back at school. It reduces to a blue block very quickly if some numpty fails to secure the lid. I now use a big black felt tip for marking out prep.

Acetone! I bought it specifically for getting it off of metal I had blued prior to paint. Works a treat but obviously test the surface first.

I used to use Meths but its now described as containing a hydrocarbon necessary to make the flames visible so I worry it'll leave a residue. Similarly for surgical spirit. All well and good but when it comes to degreasing it limits the choice of weapons to the more exotic solvents many not entirely nice for one.

I keep a 5 litre tin of Gunwash under the bench. It will shift virtually anything, including enamel paint!

Thats just the problem, I don't want to get rid of the blue and find I've stripped the white as well. Thats why I'm suspicious of acetone as well. Anyway, I've got some meths, so I'll try that when I have a chance.

I would think that if they list isopropyl alcohol, that should be fairly safe on paint....
Chris.

I tried the meths today and it worked fine removing the blue without damaging the paint. Jason is right, it does leave a faint blue shadow, but so faint that you can't really notice it.
Thanks for all your suggestions, chaps.

Thanks for all your suggestions, chaps. If you are worried about your faint trace consider polishing it out with a bit of neutral car paint colour restorer, perspex polish or similar light polish.

Thanks for that Steve, but no, I'm not worried about the shadow. Most of it is hidden by the base unit the fridge is next to.
