Just thought I would drop in a thread about the Modelworks rally which I attended on Sunday (21st) Had a fantastic time in spite of the most horrific weather I have had to experience in sometime. It didn't dampen my spirits nor many others. Thanks have to go to the SCMES for their hospitality and also the 2 stalwart steamers who ran the gorgeous 7 1/4 inch Brit and Patriot all day in the pouring rain!! I have to say I didn't even manage to light up the 57xx due to the amount of water and lack of cover in the steaming bays. However another visitor did manage to fire his 9F which was also a delightful model and seemed to have plenty of power during his passenger carrying antics. Very exciting is the rumor that this superb model might be up for sale in the near future as he has another 9F build in progress. Was nice to meet other like minded Modelworks customers who were discussing their build experiences in a very positive and helpful manner. I see Britannia builder was there and I must have missed you but I see you have some great pictures from the day on your Britannia website. The 14xx was running all day and happily pulling several people. Anyway wish it had been sunny but hey,ho. Lets keep going and lets get some more hints and tips posted on here and get all these models up and running. Best wishes Stan

Hi Stan, Britanniabuilder here, sorry I missed you at the rally on Sunday. It was an excellent turnout in spite of the weather. My pictures are at www.britanniabuilder.co.uk/ownersday0506.htmI didn't realise that the 57xx that I photographed was yours - it does indeed look very nice! Does the 9F pictured belong to Locoworksnorth, I wonder? Regards, John

Hi Stan,
Yes, I was asking the questions in the Phoenix Paints session.
I still haven't had a very good answer to the problem of filling countersunk screw heads. I've been using Loctite Chip&Dent repair from Halfords, which goes on nicely and I carefully sand it down flush with fine wet and dry on a flat backing pad, but after I've sprayed it a slight ring around the edge and depression in the middle is still visible. Is there any way of avoiding this, and if not is there anything other than another coat of filler that I can put on after painting to rectify it? I think I did read somewhere that car body repairers have a special thick paint that they use to build up tiny defects like this.
Regards,
John

John,
When you are next in halfords, it's worth checking out the cans of spray paint. they now do a filler primer..... Which is ideal.

Hi JJ Thanks for the photo of my 14xx, 1452. Shame about the weather on the day, but I had a good 3 1/2 hours steaming without any dramas. Came home wet through, and had a cold all week but it was worth it! Heyfordian18

John I am unable to advise personally on the screw head problem as I have not tried to cover mine.....I know detailers will mock, but alas it runs great and that will do for me. ;D
Heyford its nice to put a face to the name and you certainly have a great little 14xx there. Had a great exhaust note I thought.
