Just received the Kingscale free chassis kit for the 15xx loco.
Would appreciate hearing from any other member who has one.
The first batch of 100 went quickly and mine is from the second batch of 50.

I have received a confidential polite PM from a member, for which I am most grateful. Best summarised as == no comments should tell you all you need to know. What's that ?

It's relatively easy to find comments about products from this manufacturer. Apart from Facebook it may be worth looking at the descriptions for second hand ones at Station Road Steam.
Having never owned or operated one myself it would be wrong to pass further comment.

Dan

The product seems well advertised. The spill is good but until it’s tried and tested I don’t think there will be many if any comments at this stage? That’s a big ask.
Given the detail in the drawings for the kits it looks like a nice model and probably worth the £6k or so price.
I think realistically you need to understand steam in order to build a successful model regardless how good the kit manufacturer is. With todays technology the likelihood of a good working model is more realistic than 20 odd years ago. Personally, I would go for it.
Still an interesting lead to their advert…

There’s a guy on instagram who has posted quite a few Kingscale models running… fletch6619. No idea if he’s involved with them or not as he post lots of train related stuff. The models all look good & seem to run well. Todays one was Duchess of Hamilton very nice !

Thanks replies one and all.
I was really looking for a member who had one so we could exchange thoughts on what had been received.
I am amazed that of the 150 issued, no other forum member seems to have one.

Without knowing what the problems were, or their seriousness, it is very difficult for anyone else to form an opinion as to whether these kits are a good idea. So it might be that we will be putting people off when this company is providing quite a good product. We just don't know, but I feel this thread is casting aspersions by a sort of whispering game of "there might be something wrong".
Don't forget that the clubs should still be welcoming people with kit-built engines. Maybe they will have more time to help with the track as they don't have quite so many thousands of hours to build the loco! Of course, if the club track is just used as somewhere to go for a drive, that might not be so helpful...
Chris.

Best then no more replies please if this is the feeling.
This is a first loco, and I just wanted to see if anyone else had one and to share thoughts on same as now in wheelchair so building a kit is my only option.
To my mind it looks spot on, but as a newbie I just wanted some help / advice / someone to share progress with.

I wonder if there are any forum members who have build any of the other Kingscale kits? Their quality will probably be similar to this one.
Don't forget, it can't be worse than the old Winson locomotive kits!!

So I going to persue, but due to no other members having one and general lack of interest, I will not be doing a build thread. Thanks Rupert.

I think that's part of the difficulty in commenting - this is their first kit offering. All previous models have been fully built and painted by the factory. By inference you would need to look at any potential read across of manufacturing / design comments.
Having said that there is a lot of positive feedback from people with the factory built models who are just interested in solo driving. Some have chosen to modify them to, presumably, improve performance, which might be a reason why a kit option has been launched.
Regardless it will be interesting to see how your build goes and I'm sure that help will be available if asked for.
Regards,
Dan

Hi Rupert,
You wrote .".... due to ..... general lack of interest, I will not be doing a build thread".
To the contrary, the responses above and the fact that this thread has received nearly 950 views at time of writing indicate to me that there is interest. Granted that no one could respond directly to your request for another builder, however this is a new product. I suggest that a build experience thread will be interesting and useful to many; even if they do not comment. It is too easy to derail a thread with comments. From your point of view a build thread may engender suggestions and give assistance if you need/encourage it even if there are no other builders on the forum. But ..... your choice - of course!
In any event, I wish you best of luck and enjoyment with your build, and hopefully you will at least give us your final assessment of the product and experience upon (successful!) completion.
Phil
Addendum: My post crossed with 'dhamblins', who makes the same points, - he is clearly more rapid on the keyboard than me!

I have ordered the 1500 kit and have received the 'starter kit'. It's just about half a dozen parts (the basic frames, stretchers and beams) so it is difficult to draw many conclusions. However, it looks good so far. I shall try to remember to report on the build as I go.

I'd be interested in seeing how it all goes. We are judged by our most recent actions; I'm eager to see the quality.
