Hi, I have a few problems on my Dyak loco. On putting some water pressure into the boiler I found water coming out of the blast pipe. The regulator was in the off position so it looks like a problem with the regulator. Today I removed the item in question. However I can’t figure out how this comes apart. The movement on the handle is just over 90%. So this allows the holes in the outer sleeve to be uncovered if I have the working out thing correct, or is it just a simple screw in the centre opening allowing water to flow. What is the best way to service the regulator Thanks

The drawings show a disc in tube type regulator. Yours may have holes drilled in the tube rather than the vertical tube shown.
Disc in tube are notorious for not sealing very well, especially for a hydraulic test. If you can get the regulator apart then you could try lapping the disc and the port face flat again on some fine emery paper on a flat surface. It is also possible that the steam pipe to the front tubeplate could be leaking at either the regulator or the tubeplate bush.

Thanks for the. Drawing John. It looks very much like the regulator is not sealing. I have removed it from the boiler,However I can’t figure out how to take it apart. I cannot get a picture small enough to post on this site. But the design I have is of a long brass tube with a number of holes in the outer sleeve. It must be a screw type fitting inside, but I can’t see a method of removing the inner fittings from the outer sleeve.

Quite often the end fittings are a push fit in the tube and secured by one or two counterunk screws but maybe yours is threaded into the end of the tube?
