New member to this forum. Semi-retired (redundant). Currently in the early stages of a 3 1/2 Greene King.

Hello Steve, thanks for replying. I'll try and put some progress on the model as I go. However I already feel a little guilty! Machined and drilled the frames perfectly using the DRO on the mill only to find them warped. After several days of bending, nudging and easing I've put them to one side and ordered a pair of laser cut frames! They were actually cheaper than I could buy the material, and that would be probably no better than what I'd had before. The design has only one very small vertical stretcher, the other 3 are horizontal so nothing to help pull them straight.
You have a very busy schedule to get all those things done! I've finished work now (gave up trying to get another job), and still there is no time...
Regards Ken

Welcome Ken, I have a full set of castings for a Green King, not sure if I'll ever get started or maybe have to let them go. I know exactly what you mean, I retired a few years ago and have even less time for hobbies than I did when working. Look forward to seeing progress on the Green King.
Not sure if you said where you live?
Chris

Hello Chris, I'm in Coventry. I hope to put some photos and comments on the model during the build. I got the Green King castings for a couple of hundred. It wasn't my first choice of loco as I wanted to build something in 5". However, I would have had to have bought castings (£1500 +) and build costs are more than twice as expensive. The S15 seems to be quite rare, I think its quite a good looking loco and not too complicated, costs should be not to prohibitive. The castings are for the 8 wheel bogie tender, I decided to build the Maunsall version, which I believe the loco was built with. The drawings for the tender are somewhat limited. Starting on the tender first, with a bit of the loco. I machined the frames from guillotened bright (not what I ordered, but ended up using)... bad idea, counldn't get them as straight and flat as I wanted. Didn't want to invest the time and castings on them if they turned out no good. The design only has one little vertical stretcher. So, took the plunge and bought a pair from "Model Engineers Laser". They are very good and rearlly flat and well cut, I couldn't even buy the material for the price paid. the only thing I don't like is the cross-hair spotting for the holes, it will probably leave a mark when cleaned up. I will post some photos. Don't know if its better to embed the pictures or put a link to them from a website. Ken

Ken You can’t embed them we have no web space to allow that. You have to use a photo hosting site and link to them. There is a thread on how to do this. George Ray

Hi again.
I was unable to use my previous details when I was Smallbrother so I have a new "name".
Hope to update some of my projects soon.
Pete.
