Hi today I put some heat into the Butch boiler. It got up to pressure quickly and the pressure held after the blower was reduced. I opened up the drain cocks for a moment and water and then steam came out. On turning the regulator and in forward gear the wheels started to turn. However water started to come out the chimney with the beat of the motion. I remember seeing this happen with a maid of Kent. My question. Is this just water being forced out of the steam ways, water remaining from the boiler hydraulic test.or is it a sign of something majority wrong. The boiler held pressure during the pressure test.
Second question, what oil is best to use in cylinders to stop rust, and keep the motion free.. Thanks

Can be several things. Still some condensation from the cylinders that are a bit cold, water carried over (priming),
At the club most fill the cylinders with steam oil after a run. Certainly when it will be a long time before next run like now for winter.

New boilers can be prone to carry over until they’ve been used a few times. Relatively high levels of Totally Dissolved Solids are the usual culprit.

Hi Pugman, You said you opened the drain cocks for a few moments, then opened the regulator. Most likely the cylinders were cold, try again leave the drain cocks open then open the regulator, you will get water & steam issuing forth from them, you may also get water via the chimney, as the cylinders warm up the amount of water should reduce until you only get steam from the drain cocks. At that point close them. Also by then the boiler, smokebox etc should all have heat soaked & also be up in temp. And you should no longer have water coming from the chimney.
As Reg says above new boilers do take a while to settle in.
