I recently saw a useful locking handle for a Myford Quick Change Tool Holder on EBay. It looked like a great idea so I bid for it (ears closed Tel) and got it. I found it so useful it made me think about another issue on the Myford, namely securing the carriage when cutting. Having to tighten a nut every time you use it is a pain. I therefore contacted the chap who produced the tool post handle and suggested he might like to have a go at a carriage handle, but with a wider thread so that the turn of the handle can be less than 45 degrees from open to closed. He did and sent me the prototype to test, which I did. It's great. The handle turn is about 35 degrees. I'm not suggesting anyone buys a handle (I have no connection with the chap who produces them by the way except to the extent that it was my idea) but most of you ought there can make one yourselves. Very simple to make. My only problem is time available otherwise I would have had a go myself. I prefer to spend my time working on finishing my locos. cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=633&item=3813403355&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW If there is anyone else out there who has made a modification to their lathes that has been useful and time saving how about letting the rest of us know.
