I know this won't excite anyone because it's a run of the mill boiler work in progress but I'm quite proud of it. Despite some soldering 'issues' discussed in another thread I tested it last night and it took sufficient pressure with no leaks. Hurrah! The red bits are just fibre washers I used while testing and the top fittings are just a bolt to block off one bush and my car-tyre-pump-to-boiler adapter! Oh yes, those things on the front bushes are little copper nails - they're just placeholders for some handles I haven't made yet!

Here's a pic of the firebox housing - I wanted a chunky 'industrial' look so I invented this one with loadsa rivets. It weighs a ton for it's size & should withstand a nuclear explosion let alone a few fuel tablets!! Although it looks ok I found it difficult to get things square with my limited tools so it's not so great up close. The only reference I've got for this stuff is 'Making Simple Model Steam Engines' by Stan Bray but the boiler stands/firebox housing on the vertical boilers therein look a bit rubbish (and none too stable) IMHO, made from old tin cans.

This is turning into a diary! Two images here, first my safety valve with hand-knurled adjusting cap - it looks ok if you don't look too closely and it works fine. Secondly the pain of working without a lathe... the start of my regulator, this small amount of work took me about and hour and a half of sawing and filing!

If you can do that in 1.5 hours without lathe, you are miles ahead of me! I need at least 1.5 hours to get that square piece centered...
