Ace, that's a beauty! I love the steam valve and linkage. Where is the exhaust plumbed to?
I got a TE1A for Christmas (bless her) and when I get withdrawal symptoms I get it out and chase it round the workshop.

Hi Andy
It started life as box of bits from ebay for a tenner. when I got it the boiler was damaged so I followed the idea came from the last one I did and sent the exhaust through to the fire box, steam now comes out of the smoke stack. However this is the first one I've done where I've used pin-stripping, and it does make a difference.
Just a shame that it may burn when .... or if I fire it up again.

Well done Ace, Amazing how a little imagination and titivating can transform even such a basic model as the good old TE1a. These things can be picked up for a couple of quid at many car boots and would make a nice job to "fiddle with" as a little relaxation from a major project.

Thanks Val Yes I think these are a great source of fun, I have two others that are being customized and one will have a crane attached to the front and the winch will be driven from the fly wheel instead of the usual rear wheel. the other I am fiddling with is to have a full working valve chest fitted to the top of the boiler c/w motion gear etc.
Pics will be posted when I finished and painted them.

Hi Shawki Thanks for the comments, its a not building them from scratch yourself I know but its great to see a pile 'o' rubbish come back to life with a bit more sparkle and character. It's also satisfying to spend a little time in the shop experimenting with this kind of steam engine, and adding the extra bits. Plus its worth more now ACE

the other I am fiddling with is to have a full working valve chest fitted to the top of the boiler c/w motion gear etc. The Wilesco version has a 'proper' cylinder with a slip eccentric moving a slide valve, they are a little bigger than the Mamod too. Might be worth a punt if a suitable one comes on ebay.
