here is my 7 1/4 tich, which i bought from the guildford model eng 2007 rally, for £450 it needs a new boiler, but the rest of it seems to be fine. slip valve gear, which is uncommon for a 7.25 loco. i had a thought, of turning it into a sweet-pea style engine, would it be possible to convert it into hackworth valve gear??

Hi Andrew,
It should be an easy job to convert it to Hackworth's which is a fairly simple gear to build. If you are thinking of replacing the side tanks with a saddle tank that will give you plenty of room for the slides etc. The only thing with Hackworth's is that the valve timing is badly affected by movement of the axle fitted with the return crank so it pays to limit this if you can.
