I mentioned in another thread the need for an engine stand so in the last few days have come up with this:- I haven't come up with an elegant way to make the length adjustable yet so I can use it for Rob Roy as well as Juliet as shown, so it's just sat on a sheet of ply. Really pleased with the spring loaded locating pin and disk arrangement - played with the new rotary table for the first time.

G'day Andrew. Your picture is worth 1000 words. Now I know why British locos have buffers. The stand is s good project in itself. To make it longitudinally adjustable you will need a larger base board. I guess you could simply slot the mounting holes in the board, a threaded tie rod would keep things together. Regards, Ian

Mine is about 85% complete - fingers crossed I'll get it finished (bar paint) later this week and post some picture. Yours looks great :-)

Nice one Mark! I'm glad I don't need that heavy a construction for Juliet 'cos my bits box wouldn't have furnished the material. Is there enough resistance in the worm drive or do you need a locking mechanism?
Cheers, Andy

There's plenty of resistance and the Frames will stay where they are left. There is an annoying little bit of play though (not just in the worm gear) which gives about 10 deg of rocking movement. I'm umming and ahhing as to whether or not I can live with that - for now yes, but maybe later not. :-)

Cheers, Andy Once the boiler is on the frames the centre of gravity is much higher and the engine is very much heavier. Complete, mine probably weighs about 150lbs and I have got a 'round tuit' attached to the stand to remind me to change the suspension cradle in order to raise the axis of rotation to well above the buffer beams. More details (if you are interested) in my thread in the 'General' forum.
