Hi Can anyone give me rough dimensions to make a displacement lubricator for am small ST engine, maybe I'm a bit mean but £40 + post seems a bit steep for one from Stuart. Ron

You mean one like this Ron? Dead easy, should be able to do one in under an hour. A bit of Thin walled brass tube about 1/2 or so diameter. Silver solder in threaded bushes top & bottom, cross drill 1/4 & silver solder in a bit of 1/4" brass, threaded 1/4 x 40 each end & drilled thru' about 1/8" or so. Hold in 3 jaw by the long end, make a tiny start with a weeny centre drill, drill into opening with #60 drill. Make & fit plugs top & bottom. You can do fancier, adjustable ones, but this basic one will get you out of trouble.

Although it says 'image', I can't see one, is it me or did it not print. I am considering fitting a displacement lubricator to my 3 1/2 Rob Roy if I can find space as it is always playing up, usually non-return valves not working correctly. Not helped by a delivery of oil to cover you well when it works.
Any comments from you, or others who may have done this work on a Rob Roy, would be greatly appreciated

Personally Donald, I think you would be better off with a Jim Ewins type plunger-thru'-two-o-rings type for that application - I build a twin version for the Simplex, and it works a treat

Hello Tel.
Thank you for that, I have also had suggested by one of our club members, that I should use a car tyre inflator assembly, and make an inline N R valve. This type I am told is very good, and the bonus is, if it does start to leak, you unscrew the valve assembly, and replace with a new one. My local garage has provided me with 8 bodies and 20 valves, so I will be trying to get it made over the holiday. My Rob Roy lubricator pumps well, maybe too well, covering me, with oil, but that is part of the pleasure.
I will let you know how succesful I have been when Rob Roy comes out of shed, as yesterday I ran my 5" GWR 1369 Loco quite successfully, a few little leaks after a major rebuild owing to purchasing what was said to be a runner, and proved not to be, but that is another story. Rob Roy is going to have the pistons modified with a silicone O ring, and PTFE piston ring. It works well on the 1369 loco.

hi, ive just made this displacement lubricator and would like to know how to seal the needle valve thread? i thought about a second nut which can be nipped upto the lubricator body but im not sure wether this would work, how do they usually seal?. i have threaded the drain plug with an M3 bolt, if i were to make a drain plug with a 1/4 turn valve, are these valves normally sealed through tight fitting parts or some kind of seal? tia,,,,,bill billj
