Thanks Frits - interesting website. I had no idea that continental gauges followed the UK scales (3.5", 5" and 7.25"). Is it seen as a British hobby?

In Italy only the UK scales are used. There seem to be no other 3 1/2" working locos in Italy so mine are confined to my short test track. 5" has a few tracks and 7 1/4" is also developing.
Even in a metric country when we talk live steam the track gauges are always in inches. 127mm just does not have the same ring to it!!
