I have had to cull some of the clubs with no web links, it's a shame but there's little point in having a name and no link to where to find out more. On another matter the geocoding experiment is working well - I hope to implement smart mapping for the UK clubs soon, then I'll update the other countries. If you would like to add or update your club details please fill in the form at www.modeleng.org/addclub.htm as these updates are done as a priority over the (ridiculous number of) random emails I get every day. Cheers Andy

Its a shame we at North Devon Model Engineering Society cannot be listed on the club directory because we do not have a web site. We have no one who could build and maintain one. A contact number and email address is given for further information. We are looking for new members as our numbers are dropping. This mainly due to members not being able to continue because of advancing years and no young blood has entered the club. I have been a member for 20 odd years and membership was in the 40s when I joined. Current membership is 13. If no new members can be found the club will no longer be able to afford the Southern Federation subscription, Insurance and meeting room hire and will have to fold. Anyone reading this in the North Devon area please get in touch!

... I have had to cull some of the clubs with no web links, it's a shame but there's little point in having a name and no link to where to find out more .... I beg to differ. At least if one knows of the existence of a club one can do some research of one's own. By all means differentiate between those clubs with links and those without, even if it means putting them in a separate section, but please don't remove all mention of them.

I could add the names and a link to an email address (i.e. a mailto: link) - In the past this has led to spamming but I guess it's better than nothing. One persistent problem in the past has been the sheer level of maintenance necessary as clubs changed committee members and contact information. Leave it with me for the moment ... Andy

I have now added email (mailto) links for those clubs without their own web site but with a quotable email address for contact.
Cheers

Andy I have some sympathy about the SPAMming problem. One approach is to quote the address in a form that is not easily read by web crawling robots. For example: webmaster (at) cheltsme (dot) org (dot) ukFor those clubs who, for whatever reason, do not want to publish contact details. I think that there is still a case for listing the club with a suitable comment (e.g. "Contact information withheld because the club is on private land").

I looked this up with a view to putting our club on but we don't have a web site. Experience on the Homeworkshop site suggests a deluge of spam even with encoded email addresses. Telephone numbers don't seem to create a problem, has it been tried?

Peter Yes - I used to post this information but maintaining it became a real pain, especially around the time of club changes - I looked in my back records and have more than 200 notifications of changes over the years. Publicising a web link means that when a club makes a change they don't suffer from an update cycle on modeleng.org Andy

What would you like to achieve Ruben? Are you wanting to see trains runing or just have the opportunity to chat with like minded model engineers?

Harrow SME. and North London SME, are two that are close to London. Not sure which days they meet / run, but their websites may tell you.
For full size, Kew Bridge Museum is worth a visit.

Hi all, living in South Wales I would like to contact either the Swansea or, preferably, the Llanelli clubs but the Swansea link in the list doesn't work and the 'contact us' bit on the Llanelli web site doesn't work. Can somebody give me a valid email or phone number please, I want to talk about boiler certification. Thanks, Phil

Thanks for replies but I said that the Swansea link is empty, it doesn't link to anything and I also said the LDME website works (hasn't been updated for months by the look of it) but the 'contact us' page doesn't work. Any ideas how to contact them please?

Hi, if you click on the swansea name in Chronos list it opens an e-mail page for you to send an e-mail to them, does that not work?,
Looks like there is a bit of a glitch with Llanelli's website at the moment, they had a rally in September gone they were still operating then, videos on youtube David
