I have just added a page at, www.modelengine.co.uk/of some of LBSC's own locomotives on his track. Included is one that is a mystery. The person who took the photos (Brian Spurle) would like to know what it is. Does anyone have any ideas?

Now if I can just locate my E&J Winter's illustrated handbook in all this chaos I'm pretty sure that you mystery engine was listed therein - I'll get back to you

It doesn't appear in the list of LBSC built locos in Brian Hollingsworth book. However there is at least one mistake in that list. So it could still be one of his, but I thought he didn't do poison gas fired locos of his own only rebuilds of other peoples.

you are quite correct , George, LBSC did not like gas fired loco's,to quote him," locomotives were designed to run on coal and water,and ,not have to keep going back tothe gas works for a top up". May i copy you a quote from the great man hiself;

SORRY GUYS Don't know what happened the quote jumped off the screen.Any way i'll try again; quote "why have i such a great hatred of the word MODEL as applied to LITTLE LOCOMOTIVES,I pointed to a store window full of christmas toys, in the middle was a clockwork train in a cardboard box , the lable said MODEL RAILWAY £2 -113/4d. complete with it's own TRACK , NUFF SAID. Whenever anyone heard of someone making scale models they thought of that box in the toyshop window. Whereas the building of a LITTLE LOCOMOTIVE is a skilled engineers job. The only fundamental difference between my 21/2" gauge engine AYESHA and her full size (4' - 81/2") sister isin the size. They were both built to do a job". unquote. wise words from "the father of model engineering.
