My first attempt has not proved successful. I am loosing steam up the chimney, because the valves are not set up right. I have the little book "Slide Valve Simply Explained" first published in 1901, but still relevant. The key point seems to be to ensure that the valve is in the middle of its travel when ever the piston is at the end of its travel and to position the eccentric on the axle accordingly, in fact the advance should be slightly more than 90 degrees. Can anyone give me any hints on how to get this right this next time? My first challenge is to free off the eccentrics so they will turn on the axle but that's another matter! Mott
