Hello, When I started to build Martin Evan's Manor I made the regulator to his design which used a coarse BSW thread to control steam admittance. I used a similar method on my Speedy and have never been completely satisfied with it. Martin Evans, in describing the regulator he suggested for his Manor, mentioned the design of Roy Amsbury which was illustrated in Model Engineer, vol 138, May1972, page501. Has anyone in this company ever made a regulator to this design and if so could they explain Roy's square section guide and explain what he meant by being able to lubricate it and the LH thread nut? Does anyone know if any more comprehensive drawings of this regulator exist?
Thankyou Keith Jones

Hi Keith
I have the copy of M.E. here. If you let me have your email address I'll scan it and you can look at it for yourself, it'll take me ages to try and explain and it probably won't make sense anyway.
Cheers Trevor

Hi Trevor, Thankyou for your message. I have a copy of the relevant 1972 ME with the drawing but thanks for the offer. After a lot of head scratching I think I've cracked the square guide aspect of Roy A's regulator. However I still can't fathom what he meant when writing about lubrication. LBSC talked about drilling and tapping a small hole through the boiler crown into the regulator. The hole was sealed with a small screw which was removed to allow a drop of oil to enter the regulator. I don't think Roy Amsbury was thinking along these lines. Regards Keith

Hi Keith
I think the idea is that the screw thread is not exposed to steam so it can be greased, also I think it can be removed and greased without taking the whole thing out of the boiler.
Good luck
Trevor
