Has anybody ever used hard brass for the rings on a piston valve? If so, were they a success and did they last? Just a thought that crossed my murky mind the other day whilst making cast iron rings for 46222 ! Regards to all, Dave.

I've not tried hard brass but I've heard good reports of filled PTFE. A bit of care is needed to get clearences right (PTFE expands a lot so you have to be a couple of thou small at room temp) but those who have used it recommend.

Hi, Dave. I used split PTFE rings, backed up by silicone rubber to give flexibility, on my "King". They seal well, but it hasn't run enough to get any idea of life. Malcolm.
