Hi stan,I think you will find that Winsons altered the valves for the 2nd(99) series of 1400s,after steaming problems with the original batch.

Mott, re drain cocks and regulator, I have also spent hours to get these sorted. Fitting the regulator and steam pipe into the boiler took me 6 attempts before it was steam tight with the handle in the closed position. I abandoned the threaded joint between the pipe and the regulator block in the end, in favour of an 'O' ring fitting inside a new collar attached to the regulator. That way, the threaded joints were accessible and could have sealant applied. The auto drain cocks don't close properly, and after a sucessful request for info on this site, I am in the process of making the Okadee steam operated cocks for retro fit. These avoid the need for a lever or bowden cable to operate. I'll let you know how they work out. Heyfordian18

Strictly speaking guys I understand that they are not technically necessary on the slide valve type cylinder blocks. Because any excessive pressure build up at either end of the piston would simply exert pressure up the steam passage and push the valve off its seat in the valve chest thereby releasing that said pressure Don't shoot me down though as this is my understanding of slide valves.
