I have been building this 14xx since July 2005 which is my first loco. I have made a couple of mods, but all in all am pleased with the kit. I tested the loco on the club track in the summer and have now finished painting it. Today I steam tested my 14xx on my new track in the garden. Had a 4 hour running with no problems. I am hoping to run it again on Boxing day at the club track. Kevin

Hi Kevin Fantastic looking engine and just goes to show what excellent models can be produced from kits ;D. I would also like to say what fantastic paint job your engine has , have you had lots of experience in spray painting? Jason

Jason:- No, the only experience I have had is spraying 00 gauge model loco's with small air brush. Brought a Kite miniature spray gun from Phoenix Precision Paints.

Amazing paintwork,
Were just undercoating our 14XX at the moment and have the same spray gun. What conditions did you paint yours in??.... shed, garage, lounge (!) etc...
Did you do any with a brush? and How did you stop/reduce getting dust on the paint....??
Any help or insight into your work will be very handy!
Strangely enough we are doing the exact same paint scheme! ;D
Cheers,
Steve

Steve:- I painted the small pieces in my shed and the larger pieces outside during the summer. I didn't paint any of the pieces with a brush. To stop/reduce the dust getting on the paint, I covered with a large box once sprayed. That way it would still dry. I thined the paint down to spray and put 5-6 coats on each piece. Rubbing down in between coats. Also allowing 2-3 days for paint to dry. This is why it took me nearly 5 months to paint. ;D If you want to know anything you can PM me
