Hi Mark, OK on using PTFE should the CI rings become a problem this may be the solution, well I for one would like to see a photo of the backhead and anything else you think may be of use, I agree it would be a crying shame for any of these magnificent locos to end up as a rusting hunk of scrap. When you commented that the boiler you had made was not cheap what do you call not cheap I have had a couple of prices for the boiler and I would like to see if what I have been quoted is about the norm. The boiler I had John build for me was in 2002, and he charged me £1800 for the basic boiler. The increase in copper prices will have a increase in this price now. I will try and get his number over the wekend and post it here.
Regards
Mark

Hi Paul,
I had this one from Tim also, I almost fell of my chair it has gone up 1K in a year, this is over double the figure MW had in the kitty for their boiler, I have had several quotes and Cheddar are the most expensive, they also get to use your money for quite a while before delivery (well 50 weeks) I'd say that was a long time, there are other reputable boiler makers around we also need to investigate a "group" buy but this could get messy as there would need to be a trustworthy stakeholder to hold the boiler payments as if you trusted the boiler maker you could have another MW saga.

Guy's,
Had a chat with Michale Breeze last night, he can still supply drawings and the odd castings for the Duchess. His contact number is 01778 346565. He also said that he had just spoken to Jon=hn Ellis re a Duchess boiler for a friend he was quoted £2800.00 for the boiler tested to 200psi. This is not a bad price considering the jump in copper prices. If you need John's number I will get it for you in the week.
Regards
Mark
I can also email you pics of the boiler John made me if you wish to see his work. Michale stated that he was one of the better prices he had had for the quote.
