Hi All I'm now the proud owner of an alarming pile of copper courtesy of Mr Reeves, the next step is to buy silver solder and flux, I checking the internet prices [Easyflow 2] of the various suppliers and there seems to be a large difference in price. Are they selling the same thing or is it the old case of 'you get what you pay for' any suggestions who to buy from for good price and quality? I've used EKP Supplies Easyfow 2 for general purpose silver soldering without problems in the past and they are about the cheapest, but I realise boilers are a bit more demanding. Ron

Hi Ron, I get mine from Cup Alloys in Chesterfield: www.cupalloys.comThey seem reasonably priced and if you ring them an order it's on your doorstep next day. I've had no problems with their products, John

Hi Ron I use Easyflow 2 in the 2.5mm diameter sticks for boiler work. THe 1.5mm daimeter disappears to quick and I find it gets wasted. I would also recommend using Tenacity 5 flux, it is capable of withstanding higher temperatures and has a longer active period so giving you a bit more breathing space over standard easy flow flux. HAve a look at the JM website www.jm-metaljoining.com Andy

I'll second what Andy says about the flux. Any problems I have had have been with the flux becoming exhausted before the joint was complete. This highlights the fact that you need ample heat to get the joint up to temperature as quickly as possible.

Hi
I have used C U P solder with no problems, but just to be sure I have purchased genuine JM easy flow No 2 for my boiler and the tenacity flux.

I got most of mine from EDWARDS METALS in Birmingham (Sorry you will have to google a phone number) They don't have a website but they were more than helpful over the phone. I got copper and Silver solder (J&M Easyflo 2) for less than REEVES' wanted for the copper alone!!! If you have brought a boiler kit with pre flanged plate then this is something they can not do, but if you are just after raw copper tube and sheet, I can recomend them highly. (Usual disclaimer - no connection just a satisfied customer...)

Good stuff this thread. Shame it is in Simplex and not under general - some will miss it. Don't shoot the messenger! Regards, Tony

Anyone used the stuff a bloke sells on the homeworkshop site? 50off 1x3mm standard length sticks for £85, he says its silverflo55 but you dont get a packet to prove it. It seems ok what I've used so far. Simon. ps, I bought all the copper for my Dart boiler for £185, about £5 a kg. A Dart boiler for less than £300 + effort & gas!

I bought a load of this and have used a fair percentage of it over the past year. Sems to work fine. To be fair, when I have bought supposedly branded easyflofrom other suppliers it doesn't come with a certificate of authenticity either!
