Maybe one of the advantages of a poor summer is I got some work done on the Simplex; The cylinders are bored, pistons and rods made, the steam passages etc cut the crossheads made and it all connected up and fitted without the rings. It turns over reasonably freely without binding. The crossheads were a bit of a pain, I eventually made a sort of hybrid using Reeves bronze castings and a steel outer cover. Ron

Hi Chaps Thanks for the encouragement, it actually hasn't been as difficult as I expected [apart from the crossheads!] , it's really just a matter of keeping at it even if it's only a token gesture. Hopefully another month or so and it should be ready to run on air. Haven't had any major cockups and any minor ones so far I've managed to rectify without spending money. I've fitted brakes to the four back wheels but as you can see from the photos there isn't really room to fit them to the leading pair. I've also drilled and tapped the cylinders for drain cocks. Will now need to get back to soldering the boiler now that the colder? weather of winter is coming on. Ron

I like to do my boilers in summer to keep the heat in the boiler and put up with discomfort for a little while . Just what I do !!!

Hi Shawki I'm dependant on a pal who has oxy/acetyline and he doesn't like using it in the summer, so I just have to be patient, anyway there has been plenty of other things to get on with. Ron
