G'day all.
I am trying to identify an steam road roller I saw years ago.
About 48 years ago there was a steam power road roller parked in a playground near a school I ultimately attended. I only had one chance to look at it following attendance at an entrance exam. As the subject suggests it had a vertical boiler, this was offset to one side. The road rolls were in line with the girder type frame enclosing the front roll which was steerable. I think there was some form off steam assist steering mechanism. The engine was horizontal and enclosed in a box. I recall that I thought it had Baker valve gear, but it may have been Marshall.
Some time in the early 60s the roller disappeared along with other rollers the Adelaide City Council had in parks.
Does anyone know the maker of the roller? Does anybody know what happened to it?
Regards, Ian

Having done a bit of checking, it appears that there were several tandem rollers, so there are various possibilites.

Aveling & Porter such a type with steam-powered steering - it could be one of these.

Alan I didn't think McLaren did a tandem roller? A&P is the most likely though there were some American and Continental rollers that could fit the description too.
