Which Mamod? I have a few sat around here in various stages of - erm - customising? The TE1A piston is 7.92mm dia, piston length 9.6mm and tip of piston to centre of crankpin hole 41.7mm. If you don't want pretty then just turn down 45mm of brass to a nice fit in the bore and drill a 2.5mm hole 3mm from the end.
Cheers, Andy

G'day Pirotec You should be able to measure off the job if you have the cylinder and the crank. Cut a strip of stiff card the inside diameter of the cylinder. push the card into the cylinder to the end. Line the cylinder with the crank shaft and turn the crank so it is closest to the cylinder, this should correspond to top dead centre. Make a hole in the card to accommodate the crank pin at this point and push the card on to the pin. You now have a cardboard piston. Turn the crank 180 degrees to bottom dead centre and mark where the card exits the cylinder. The distance from this last mark is the minimum length of the piston. The card no3w has all the critical dimensions, just measure off. You will have to measure the inside diameter of the cylinder by some other method. If the engine is old and well used the bore may well be out of round and tapered. You could oil it well inside and use it for a mould of wax or Plaster of Paris, put a string in the wax or plaster so you can pull it out when set. When set pull out the plug and measure it with your mic. or calipers.
If you want to see what one looks like google "mamod" "spare parts" with "chasteam" or "forrest classics". It may be cheaper to buy a new piston but that is not the point.

Hi Pirotec
I buy parts from EBAY as I customise and redesign Mamod Steam traction engines, parts are always on ebay for these engines and other types such as the stationary engines.

Hi again
If as i assume you do not have a piston, I will have a dig around in the w/shop and get you some details of cylinders and pistons that I have as spares for the Mamod traction engines and stationary ones. I am sure that somewhere I have a folder with measurements and details of the port holes and cylinder lengths, I will try to have a look this weekend and if successful with send you them on an email. I have made my own cylinder and pistons and found them to work better but on some models I have made I went for the original look when selling the items.
