I attended the open day at Myford on Thursday, and was very impressed with the lads in the fitting shop. You could ask them to show you how they set up any part of a 7 series lathe
Brian showed me how to fit the clutch conversion to my ML7R, in addition he showed us how to preload the thrust bearings (once set at the factory they scribe a line for the correct position, move the collar one tooth on the mandrills gear and you have increased the preload by 2 thow) non of this is in any manual, Brian, Darren and the other fitters demonstrated a dozen or so points non of which are in any manual. Some people brought troublesome parts of the lathe in for a diagnosis, shown how to rectify and faulty parts and replacements identifying.
I hope Myford’s Md Mr Moore repeats this part of the open day next year, and would recommend it to anybody who owns a Myford machine.

I went a few years ago, and it was a really worthwhile day, not just for the questions which the guys were able to answer, but also to see the set ups and neasuring methods used in making the lathes.
All of the people who we met were honestly helpful and curteous, even when we got caught looking around away from the official route... (well, it would have been rude not to do it wouldn't it?)
