Hi .This is nothing to do with steam but may be of interest to one or two of you. A couple of years ago I was keen to learn about electro magnets. Not wishing to just make an electro magnet for the sake of it I decided to incorporate 2 in a simple engine. It's built mainly from odds and ends and scrap box bits but runs reasonably well. Once I had it running I cleaned it up a bit and mounted it on a polished wood base. Its amusing to watch it run, see what you think. Unfortunately when I took this video the battery didn't have a lot of charge in it so the engine slows down a lot towards the end. If Iv'e posted this in the wrong place sorry. www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5l17kaiQkQCheers

Looks good to me firebird. It's always a pleasure when something you've built actually works!

In 1989 I built 2 solenoid engines, and wrote an article in Model Engineering(vol163,no3859,page499).The first one,a Beam engine, single acting. The second on a suggestion from my youngest nephew(10yr old)was a horrizontal double acting motor. I started building stirling engines after that.

Nice to see it working. I had an electric beam engine on the shelf above my work place. When I retired I had the problem as to who I was going to pass it on to as several folk were after it.
