Does anyone own or built a 7.25" Lilla. How does it perform / Any modifications when under construction.
I'm just about to start construction.

I've got the frames laser cut, together with the stretchers, buffer beams & motion brackets. I've got a 3.5" which often hauls passengers and is powerful.

No, i bought the drawings from blackgates, then coverted to Cad and had the frames and parts laser cut myself. All holes were either cut out or spotted for drilling. My next project is to laser cut the cab and running boards.

Well received the boiler kit quote this morning £2485 OUCH!!!! and a castings price list with a 25% surcharge on the cast iron castings and 10% on all the others, so wheels were £155 now they are £194 and still no drawings. I think at this rate I will be going back to balsa bashing. colin

What about fabricating the parts? Doesn't Liila has inside wheels so you could use steel blanks with a welded or soldered balance weight. Cylinders can be fabricated to. Get all the parts laser cut at the same time.

Before you go back to Balsa bashing Colin, can you buy Balsa without taking out a second mortgage?

The cost and poor service you recieve from Blackgates, I'm going to make the patterns myself and take to the Gower, (swansea) to an excellent foundry who'll cast them at a fraction of the price.

Would these cylinnders be suitable for the Milner design? If so, I'd be interested in a set - !'ve advertised for patterns for the Milnner design on Home Workshop, but no response so far.

Would these cylinders be suitable for the Milner design? Unlikely. The Milner design is/was an 'Alice' and a full size 'Alice' weighs 6 tons. The full size 'Lilla' is substantially larger at 10 3/4 tons.

Oh well , looks as though I'll have to start reading the pattern and core making chapters in Terry Aspin's "Backyard Foundry" a bit more carefully then!
