Chris,
My copy of Peter's Railway arrived today and I have to say that having a quick glance is not enough. I have had to be firm and put it away 'till later. I am reminded of when I spent hours in the junior section of my local library immersed in the 'boys books'. Happy days.
Regards, John

Sir Brian, were you going to say something naughty about getting it in?
Chris - are you at the Edinburgh Book Festival with that nice man Gordon Brown?

Hi Tony,
I think Brian was just being helpful!!
No I don't think I will be at the Edinburgh Book Festival. I am not sure what happens at these things, maybe I will do something next year, especially if I have managed to get the second book done by then.
I have just come back from a really lovely two days down at the Welsh Highland Railway at Porthmadog. Apart from camping in cloudbursts that is. They asked me down to sign some books and were the most fantastic hosts. I was even allowed a cab ride on their line!
When it was time to pack up the tent yesterday morning, it was a major rain storm and the only thing to do was to get on with it, in boxer shorts as it was not worth getting all my clothes wet. The girls in the tent next door were having breakfasts and were a bit amazed when I had a shower under the hose pipe!
At least everyone at a preserved railway shop is interested in trains to some degree. I think at a book festival one might be in a minority??
Chris.

Hi Chris
I'm a regular user of Amazon, particularly the used section. I was amused to see that for £45.93 I can buy Peter's Railway from some con artist in Florida – not even a new copy! ('Used – very good').
The book is excellent, good luck with the sales.

I bought this book for my son at the Midlands ME show. Having had a good look through I would have loved this book as a kid. Let me explain...As a lad I repeatedly borrowed a book from the mobile library about a boy who built a grandfather clock. I was frustrated that it didn't give enough information to allow me to copy what the boy did. Now I'm not suggesting that my son will be able to build a railway, but the mix of technical info, story and illustrations is just right for the young enthusiastic mind.... Tim.
