Hi,
i'm new to this forum and want to introduce myself:
i'm 42 years young (will become old without to do anything :-) ... )
my hobby is CNC-machinery - self made and i live in germany.
As i'm not able to work in a factory anymore i've to do anything - here's the first result:
a few weeks ago i start to build a steam engine - without castings - only a plan for a 2cyl machine without reverse gear.
but i'd like to do a little bit more - but see yourself:

material of cylinders, pistons, crossheads, rods, flywheel, chest and crank are cast iron, rest is steel and brass
dimension: ca. 8" long, 3/4" stroke, 5/8" dia
a lot of 400h work
the cylinders are milled in several hours to get them look like castings - the rods too. another detail inside: 2 piston rings per piston made of hard brass, working in bushes of bronce
air consumption: a lot :-(
the machine is working from 1.2atm on and produces at 8atm roundabout 350 watt, but has to be braked - otherwise the revs will count very fast - too fast :-(
it didn't work below 280rpm :-(
at 2atm it will reach 2,500rpm (all at compressed air - no steam)
what to do: governour, pump, gear - anytime (maybe)
now i'm looking for a balancier (like "Mary" or "Beam") and/or a 2cyl horizontal like "Twin Victoria" - or - i can't believe to get it in my live - the machine of the SS Gallia (a swiss ship)
has anyone such plans which have the base to became a "old-style" looking machine ?
a "Stephenson" or any other machine with a "unusual face" is welcome too - just to put a 2nd machine beside so that this one isn't lonesome at night :-)
the next machine should be a little bigger to get low rotation at the crank
- my opinion: a livesteam has to work slow - very slow and look very old and used
also i'm not a fan of in light from the brass flashing engines
if anyone is interested in more details: let me know
regards Frank
(sorry for my english - i try to give my very best)
