Tiny little Sixis and Aceira mills are both capable of horizontal use. They come up occasionally, and like the Centec, they are superbly made.
The Sixis are probably the more adaptable, as they have a T slotted vertical table for mounting sub tables or directly mounting work, while the aceira uses dovetailed edges for mounting.
Either of the swiss mills is capable of mounting long pieces of work vertically, the centec, astra and tom senior mills tend to be a bit limited for mounting long work peices.

I agree the Centec is a great machine - I have a 2B, but that one on Ebay with the 'buy it now' tag of £1350 has been on for months, because he's asking about £800 too much for it.

I agree Centec milling machines are very good indeed, though they don't come up for sale all that often.I have a Centec 2B also, and it is very good. There is a Centec 2 (which predates the 2A) for sale at Tracey Machinery in Burntwood,Staffs www.traceymachinery.co.uk/milling.htm which is a bench mounted mill.

I've just bought a Centec 2a on E-bay for a very reasonable price - lots of tooling with it as well as a stand and vertical head as well. A bit small, I think, but I'll be interested to see what I can do on it.

You can increase the vertical range quite easily by adding a spacer at the bottom of the column.
I always thought the x-y range was a bit limiting. Still a good accurate machine though.....
