Evening all, I was wondering if someone could help me. Im currently making a 1" minnie and Im a bit confused about the size of the flanges on the throatplate. According to L.C. Masons book, it states that "Trim the flanges down to width" on page 18, however it doesnt say what the width should be! Is it 1/4" (the same thickness as the former) or is it the entire length of the flanges after they have been made on the former? Thanks in Advance! On a seperate note does anyone know where I can get hold of a length of copper tube 3/4" long, 1 5/16" diameter with a wall thickness of 1/8" to make the firebox ring?As im pretty sure I will not need the remains of a 12" long tube!!!

I had my boiler made by blackgates and the flanges are 1/4" approx so I would say trim them to the thickness of your former (assuming you are using 1/4 plate)
Reeves sell short lengths of 10swg wall thickness copper for firehole rings.
