Anyone out there interested in participating in a REMAP type thread, say publishing photos of "contraptions" manufactured.
For those wondering what REMAP is, it's a uk based charity maufacturing unique devices for the disabled. I believe many model engineers participate in this, and similar organisations abroad, and it might be useful to get the ideas onto a common site
REMAP in uk as remap.org.uk TAD in Australia as technicalaid.org.au TETRA in Canada as reachdisability.org

Jack,
I once contemplated joining REMAP but found Iwas expected to do client visits etc, at the time I would be willing to make things for the less able but am not sure about visiting clients.
I think model engineers would be great for REMAP as I find in the main ME's are brilliant scroungers!!!!!

Hi IP The client visits really go quite well (at least in my experience). By the time that the job is referred to REMAP the commercial options will (should) have been exhausted by the occupational therapists and we are the "last resort". It really is quite heartening how cheery those with problems can be - in fact the're often apologetic for the "nuisance " they cause.
Believe it or not I was advised by a regional organiser that model engineers probably weren't the best choice for this type of work since they often worked to plans and therefore weren't capable of lateral thinking !! On that particular occasion, diplomancy ruled and I held my tongue. Shows how opponionated the unlearned can be. Give your local region chairman a call and see what you can do for them. I'm sure you'll find it enjoyable. If you need a contact name, or telephone number just tell me the general area you live and I'll source the required contact information. regards jack

Jack,
REMAP is something I am interested in and I will 'join up' one of these days. I would have thought that model engineers were well suited for this role as in my experience not because they think outside the box but because they tend to brilliant scroungers!
