Lazing about on a Carribean beach for a fortnight is OK, but I thought I'd do something more enjoyable when I got back! I finished the guide bars today, so I thought I'd have a laugh and assemble the valve gear using the surface plate. LBSC said clearances were a bit tight, but as you can see from the photos, I now realise he was a master of understatement! I have to admit to an error....... I didn't fancy brazing the shaped MS crosshead, slipper and drop arm, so I made most of it out of one piece, and slotted it to take a 1/8" thick MS drop arm, as you can see in the pics. However, I forgot that the slot moved the drop arm closer to the frame, hence there was no clearance for the link against the guide bars. I've bodged by adding some packing, but it's either a new drop arm, or I insert a flanged bronze bush and file 15 thou off the back of the drop arm. I suspect the latter is the easier way. I'm pinching myself now, just realising that I'm well on the way to creating my first working loco! Doing the Motion Brackets this week if I finish my Tax Return....

Think yourself lucky JB, if it was the Kingette the combination lever would have to pass through the slidebar ;D John
