G'day TB
Good to see someone is at last doing some thing. If if runs on steam without binding then it is a goer.
Regarding the rust pitting you may do some good with one of the electrolytic techniques that have been mentioned on this site.
Regards, Ian

Hi Tom you may be able to clean up the coupling rods with some needle files and then clean off the file marks with some emery paper, or are they too far gone for that. It is good to see young people taking an active interest in the hobby. Post the pics of the cleaned up chassis I form one would like to see the result of your hard labour. Mike

Tom, needle files may be a bit harsh, and lead to an uneven surface on larger flat areas. Can I suggest 120 wet and dry on a hard rubber or cork block, wetted with WD40, finish off with 320 then 400? That's how I get the finish on the Brit bits: works for me! Regards JB

Hi Tom, Can you do a close up pic of the rods and wheels to let us see how bad they are, thereby maybe generating some more advice.
Cheers,
Ian.

Hi Tom, Have you thought of trying the mini sanding drums in a mini drill (Dremel)? I use them for finishing rods and valve gear parts. They give a nice satin finish that looks really good. You've probably got nothing to lose by having a 'good go' at them. You might finish up having to remove a fair bit of metal to get rid of any pits but so long as the rods don't finish up too thin, they'll be ok until you get around to replacing them. Only the rivet counters will notice that they're a bit thinner than they should be John

Wel TB - at least you're posting pictures for praise or criticism - full marks for that. The pontificators don't have pictures to post as it's all in their minds! DJ
