Hallo There is some backlash play on the "X" feed-screw of my Tom Senior E miller that annoys me. What would be the best way to correct this? Does anybody have information on the feed-screw and the nut? Thanks Johannes

hello I have a similar problem on my chester mill which tends to bug me. A solution suggested to me I have yet to try was to make a small flange nut with the correct thread matching the feed screw, run it down the feed screw to the table nut, back it off a tad then bolt it to the side of the machine nut under the table. This would act like a lock nut on the feed screw with a small bit of play
Then all you have to do is add shims between the table nut and the nut you created till you get the right feel.. Its a case of trial and error till you get it right. Also try not to eliminate all the backlash or you'll put too much pressure on the feed screw and wear the feed screw out much quicker over time dave
