I see from David's comments in the March MEW that the new ME website will include an open forum about ME activities.
Is this really necessary? We already have this excellent forum along with uk.rec.models.engineering, which seems to have developed into a general engineering forum, and several more specialised forums (or should that be fora?) on yahoo. Won't another forum just duplicate this one and dilute the readership and contributions?
What do others think?
Russell.

Hi There The forum is built into the template for the site. It can't be removed without completley reprogramming the template and as they use the basic template for other magazines sites. they won't do this. There are also classifieds. That might upset the other site with adverts but our site will allow you to post your own adverts with a photo and will allow you to remove the advert when sold. There is no waiting for a person to intervene and put the advert up.

Thanks for your reply. The classified ads sound good with the ability to post photos.
I look forward to seeing the site.
regards, Russell.

David,
The classifieds feature seems an excellent idea. If I understand correctly, seller's will have direct control over the timing of the advert's appearance, and will be able to remove it immediately the item is sold. Depending upon whether you are buyer seller, it should save unnecessary irritation or disappointment when the items has already been sold.
Will it be posssible to "subscribe" to the thread so that one receives immediate email notification of a new posting?
Edward
