Having started to play with my recently purchased Milling Machine, I have concluded I need some Parallels. What are the wavy sub-species used for ? I have had a quick survey of MEW for the last 2 years or so, and as far as I can see, no mention. I surmise they could be used in the vice for thin stock if they are squashable, but no real idea. Anyone got 'em? Any advantage over rigid parallels ?

They don't fall over so easily Jason

Yep, they are for thin stock, and are squashable - there are a few variations on the theme about. Also, as Jason mentions, they don't fall over near as easily as (say) a 6" rule.

Hi troops, Thanks for info. I will get a set, on an 'as well as' basis, together with the ordinary type. Sure I will use 'em sooner or later. Well into new and shiny stuff anyway Dave

I've got some 1/32" flat parallels for working with thin stock in the milling machine vise. They DO like to fall over. About those wavy parallels.... What happens if you compress the waves in the vise? Do they break?

That's the general idea: they compress up (within limits) and no falling over! JB
